The 3rd Workshop on High-Dimensional Approximation was held at the School of Mathematics & Statistics of the University of New South Wales, Sydney from February 16–20, 2009.

The two previous workshops were held at the Australian National University, see HDA07 and HDA05. They were originally organised to have a productive collaboration amongst the research groups of Markus Hegland and Ian Sloan. Since the interest in this topic is steadily growing, the workshop is enlarging its horizons as well.

The workshop covers current research in all aspects of high dimensional integration and approximation. It is open to all with an interest in the area. The topic is linked with (in no specific order): Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo methods, information-based complexity, sparse grid methods, tensor-product approximation, ... and many more. Take a look at the members of the scientific committee if you want to have some more orientation.

There will be a special issue of Journal of Complexity devoted to papers from the workshop. All papers submitted for the Special Issue will be refereed to full standards of the Journal. The guest editors will be Ian Sloan, Markus Hegland and Stefan Heinrich. The deadline is 31 May 2009. Articles should be emailed to one of the guest editors.
